Hi there! My name is Emma and I am the founder of AutEd-Training, an Autism consultancy dedicated to supporting families like mine. I was diagnosed as autistic in 2019 and am part of a neurodiverse family. My journey began around 15 years ago when my son started nursery. The setting he was in didn’t understand him, and many struggled to work with him. This baffled me because, in my eyes, he was the easiest child to be around and I saw nothing but perfection. He was diagnosed with Autism and ADHD at the age of 5, and despite having this diagnosis, most of his teachers still struggled. This was when I realized there was a serious lack of knowledge and understanding around the condition. My daughter was also diagnosed later in 2018 and was equally misunderstood. Where I saw wonder, curiosity, and character, others saw problems, defiance, and difficulties. Since then, I have completed a BPhil in Special Education and Autism and developed a passion for teaching and training. I also focus on creating bespoke resources for families to help them navigate these challenges. I taught myself and my family to surround themselves with positive people who accept them for who they are! Because that’s what it comes down to... I don’t see Autism as a disability. It’s the environments we are in and the people we are surrounded by that disable us. So educate yourself and seek Autism training—be someone that will actually make a difference!
